(Variegated Carlablackiae × Portillae) × (Silver Tiger × Muchlis)
The first side of this pairing comes from a confirmed variegated Carlablackiae crossed with Portillae.
The other side is a Kartel Daun selected Silver Tiger × Muchlis plant. I was drawn to the thick silver venation, wide sinus, ruffled margins and the stretched, rat-tail style leaf direction showing in that parent.
The goal was never to create a safe plant. I wanted to put the possibility of variegated Carla influence against a parent with enough shape, silver and weirdness to make the offspring interesting even if the variegation never shows.
Variegation is not guaranteed in the offspring. These are seed-grown seedlings and every one can express the cross differently.
This is the kind of pairing I make because I want to be surprised. There are enough moving parts here that I don’t need to tell the seedlings what they’re supposed to become. I just want enough good genetics in the room to make the reveal worth watching.
